Dear parents, carers and students,

Yesterday the Victorian Government announced that, on the advice of the Victorian Chief Health Officer, metropolitan Melbourne will move to Stage 4 restrictions to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

This means that you must stay at home and there are only very limited reasons to go out.

A curfew is in place preventing people from being outside their homes between the hours of 8pm and 5am.

You must stay within a 5km radius of your home to exercise and to shop.  Only one person per household can do the shopping and you can only shop once per day.

Exercise is limited to once per day for one hour.

All the details of STAGE 4 restrictions can be found at https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorias-restriction-levels-covid-19

It is very important that we all follow these new restrictions as we protect the health and safety of ourselves, our families and our community.  We will continue to support your children as they engage in their learning remotely and we will continue to connect with families to support you in any way we can during these challenging and difficult times.

For Doveton College this means

  • The Early Learning Centre is only open to provide care for children of permitted workers and there is no-one at home to care for them or those in extremely limited circumstances of vulnerability.
  • The school has moved to remote and flexible learning where children must learn at home unless their parents are permitted workers, or those in extremely limited circumstances of vulnerability.

Please note that Tuesday 4 August will be a student-free day across Victoria.  Students are not required to participate in live lessons or classes on this day.

Learning from home

Learning packs have been provided for all children in the College.  If additional hard copy materials are necessary for your child’s learning for this extended period they will be mailed to your home address.  In some cases, your children may need to mail work back to their teacher and a stamped addressed envelope will be provided for this.

College staff will be mostly working from home.  You are able to contact them via email.  Wellbeing and year level/room leaders can be contacted via the numbers below during business hours.  College staff will be making regular calls to check in with you, and in the school sector to support students in their learning.  These calls will show NO CALLER ID – please accept these calls.

The Doveton College website has more detailed information about remote learning and supports available for families and community.  Daily learning programs for school children is accessed via their schedule on Compass.

Thank you for the amazing support you have given in implementing the remote learning program.  It has been great to see so many children engaged in their live lessons and participating in the remote program.  Please remember that we must have current and up to date information so that we can support you.  We need to have your current mobile, home address and email address.

These are certainly challenging times and I thank you for your continued support and for working with us as we implement the risk minimisation strategies for our community and engage your children in the remote learning program.   We will need to continue to work closely together as we provide support to ensure the ongoing wellbeing and learning of your children, and in curbing the spread of the coronavirus.

I hope that you and your family continue to stay safe and healthy.

Kind regards

Debra Gibson
